DEAR DIARY - HOW TO GET BACK FROM DULL TO WACKY?

WHERE IS WACKY LATELY?
Damn I feel dull lately!  I used to be this fun, Wacky type guy but I feel like I'm losing my edge lately.  I believe it happened about 2 weeks ago when I slammed into a couple of birch trees while skiing with a buddy of mine on a nasty glade trail at Mittersill Mountain - the back country area at Cannon Mountain.  I knocked the hell out out my kneecaps and have been hobbling around ever since then.  Not sure if your knees should still be swollen 2 weeks after you smash them on a 12" birch?  Anyone out there know?  I have skiied since then but with the sore knees, a sprained finger, a screwed up shoulder, the mysterious aching elbow I have had for about 2 months, and some bruised ribs, it just ain't the same!  I find that I can't bring myself to attack the hill the same way when my body is in this condition!  I even opted to take the weekend off of skiing when I could have put my kids in the car and gone for it but I whimped out instead -  very unlike me.  I did learn a bit of respect when I met Betty and Barry Birch that day.  I think I maybe I am becoming a bit of a pussy!
I have been reflecting on how to get back to my old self.  My answer is always working out.  It is time for me to get my butt in gear and start riding the bike, and even though I hate to say it I might have to do a bit of lifting or something at the gym.  I have found that I have lost some of my upper body strength since I don't use it as much as I used to.  I have no idea what is wrong with my elbow.  It seems to be akin to "Tennis Elbow" but I don't play tennis.  I guess it could be from sking the bumps or something.  I figure working it out in some way should be good for it.  As far as the skiing goes I am done being a pussy!  I am going north next weekend if it kills me!  I have been regretting not going all day today!  I am going to throw myself down the hill at those bumps and ski the shit out of them!  As for the other maladies I am going to take my Marine father's advice and "just spit on it, it'll feel better"!

If there is anyone out there who can give me some advice to bring me back to my "Wacky" form then please do so!  I have been toying with the idea of trying to maintain a manmade snowpile in the yard until April this year.  I still have about a 4' pile in the side yard but it is melting quickly.  It would take a couple of cold nights but I think I could pull off April snow this year (A FIRST)!  Somehow doing this would bring back some wacky to my life!

Sorry for all of the bitching and moaning...it won't happen again!!

WHAT IN CRAP'S NAME IS VAGINAL REJUVENATION

Warning - this is not one of my more Kid Friendly blogs.  Adult subject matter to follow.

Ok everyone.  I have heard some crazy shit in my day - but while driving down the highway listening to the radio, I heard something advertised called vaginal rejuvenation!  What in hells bells is that?  I have purposely kept myself uneducated as to what it is so that maybe some of my readers can enlighten me and bring me up to speed on the latest in vagina remodeling.  I just can't fathom what the hell this is all about. Is it like getting a body job on a car?  Maybe a new coat of paint, a buff, and wax?  Maybe it is like getting a new kitchen in your house or refinishing your hard wood floor.

Maybe it is like trading your vagina in for a new model.  Well doc I have a Chevy Cobalt right now, but I was looking for something a little sportier - maybe a Porsche or a Ferrari.  Or perhaps you have the minivan with a huge hatchback and lots of space and you want to "downsize" to a more "compact" model.  Am I on the right track?  Trade in the school bus for a Mercedes?  Ok enough car metaphors.  I am ready to be enlightened.  I know one of my readers can do some research on this for me - or if I'm really lucky maybe one of you has first hand information and actually has a rejuvenated vagina!  Let me know!

By the way, just so everyone knows, I believe that any country that openly advertises vaginal rejuvenations has to be going to hell in a hand basket!  God help us all!

SPRING OBSESSIONS ARE CALLING!

SPRING IS ALMOST SPRUNG!

I think you all know that I am a lover of winter! I started writing this blog at the beginning of winter and I have pretty much shown you all that I am crazy about winter and all of it's activities. I have bored you all to tears with my ranting on skiing, snowmaking, sledding, snow in general, etc.. Skiing has been tremendous this year, and I had a great time making snow and sledding out in the yard. However I am ready to move on to my next set of obsessions!

sap as we collected today
Spring brings in a whole new set of hobbies. Maple syrup season pretty much straddles winter and spring and is a reminder to me that spring is right around the corner. Sapping has been awesome this year. I believe a result of the snow pack that we had and the harder than normal winter. But it also brings in some other hobbies that I am itching to get back to.

Images of me riding my bike last year.  This day was a 200
mile solo ride dedicated to my friend Karen Petty who was
taken from us by Pancreatic Cancer.
The first has to be riding my bike. I have kept active skiing this winter and I am eager to jump right onto the bike and test out my mogul trained legs in the hills. Plus I need to do something to tear off this hibernation belly I have acquired! Riding is just the thing for that.

To of my beauties - Abby and Ailey on
opening day of trout 2010.
I also look forward to opening day of trout season. This yearly tradition of going out and catching a slew of trout with the girls has become engrained in our family, and I am eager to get them out there! Oh god I just realized that Mia has reached the prerequisite age to begin her fishing career! God help me - 3 years old! The others were out at three years old so I guess I need to stick to that tradition in fairness! Papa Leo hope you're free on opening day! I am going to need some help!

A beautiful night on the bay with my favorite sailing partner
- My wife Cathy.  We met sailing and it is a strong bond for us
The next thing is getting my sailboat ready to go in the water. This obsession really doesn't kick in until June but there is a 2 week flurry of activity to get the boat seaworthy enough to float that is coming on quickly. I am looking forward to the breezy summer days out on Narragansett Bay hanging with the whole family, one kid or another, or my beautiful bride, but being out on the water is pure peace to me. I grew up sailing - I literally don't remember not being on boats and I am ready for the joy of it!

Marsh Marigold - Tastes like spinach!
Another thing I look forward to is getting out in the woods with my kids and beginning our yearly hunting for edible wild plants. Our first find of the season is usually the delicious Marsh-Marigold (actually maple syrup is really the first). We go out - donned in rubber boots and splash around the local streams picking these little beauties! Mmmmm! Then on to the other more summery plants - berries, cattails, milkweed, acorns, etc.. My kids really love this stuff and so does their Wacky Dad!

Ok old man winter - hold on for a couple more weeks to keep the skiing sweet but give up the fight this year and let us enjoy a beautiful spring!

Love,

Wacky Dad
