Welcome To Wacky Dad!

I really have no plan about how this blog is going to shake out.  I am just going to talk about some of the stupid and fun things that I do in my life and try to entertain people.  I am probably much less entertaining than I think I am, but confidence has never been an issue for me, so if you don't like my blog I don't really care although I hope you do!

Anybody know what this is?  This is the culmination of one of my hobbies.  I await your guesses!

Ok.  You guessed it!  It is Maple syrup at it's completion!  This is an awesome thing to do with your kids and it is virtually free.  The first year I tapped my trees I used old pieces from one of my snowmakers (another story) and drilled around 4 taps in a couple of trees.  We ended up with around a gallon of fresh maple syrup all told by the end of the season.  "Backyard Sugaring" is a great way to get the family together on a late winter day!  It also smells awesome!  Don't forget to buy a bottle of wine or at least a six pack of beer!  Boiling your sap down takes a long time!

The beautiful finished product!

Ask Questions and learn how it is done!!

  1. You got it brother! Even though most of us live in cities and suburbs all it takes is one tree to have some fun with this. My kids love it and it tastes awesome.

  4. You won't make your own Dad an administrator? What kind of a son are you anyway?

  5. You are just too dangerous to have as an administrator! Sorry old man!

  6. Here I am, to invalid to do much but surf the web, all I ask is for my son to let me be an administrator so I can while away my senior years here on the web. This reminds me of the time when you let the air out of my wheelchair tires as a prank. It would have been funny except for that kitchen fire.

  7. You are a dirty old man Leo Costantino! You can't be trusted as an administrator! You have way too much dirt on me! For the record there was no kitchen fire. There was the incident in the basement that I will keep anonymous for now!

  8. I wouldn't admit to flatting an old man's wheelchair tires either. Gotta go change my burn dressings.

    You're not a nice son.

  9. Never trust a man with a beard and no mustache. Santa - now there is a guy you can trust. Captain Ahab - He was one rotten son of a B!

  10. I used to have a mustache, burned off in the kitchen fire while I was trying to escape with two flat wheelchair tires.

  12. Someone I emailed this link to wants to know about your wacky mother. How come you don't mention her? She's how you got like you are.

  13. My mother is going to be on of the first living saints in a 1000 years after living with your crazy butt for over 40 years!

  14. Oh am I gonna love this!!!!! If the posts I've seen on Facebook are any indication, this ought to be very entertaining. And the part about your mother....? ABSOLUTELY true. Anyone who survives YOU TWO has earned sainthood! :)

  16. You forget about all the nights you dragged a dirty frozen snowmaking hose through the living room to thaw it out in the bathtub.

I'm not in this alone Meathead.

  20. Hayley mainly because I am a greedy bastard! Actually last year was a terrible sap year. We are praying for a cold spring! You need freezing night followed by warm days to get good sap runs. In warmed up way to quickly last year!

  21. I believe, and I'm quoting from memory here, that 'you two' is some sort of ref to the saintly-ness of any woman living with a Costantino male...but I'm just quoting from memory here.

On another note, I am quite fond of the Costantino Custom Syrup Buckets...avail. at a Target near you (or Cumberland Farms or wherever you buy your soft drinks - Snow maker parts not included)

    Seasons Greetings!

  22. Not sure which Jim you are but Thanks for the Seasons Greetings! As for my mother being a saint I do give her credit for living with "him" for all of these years. Me on the other hand - I was so easy! As far as the buckets go they were free and they work awesome!

  23. You said on the projo page that you were raising money for wonded warriors and money for a bike ride. Do you host these events? If so would you ever consider making it a 5k Run?

Think the snow thing is pretty cool. Would love to be able to have awhite christmas no mater what!

  24. The Wounded Warrior event is happening tomorrow so no time to change that. It is also focused on kids so the walk is better suited in this case. As far as the Pancreatic Cancer stuff goes we would definitely think about running a separate event as a running event. Sounds like a great idea!

  25. The bike ride is here to stay. That is a one day 200 mile trip that I do from West Warwick RI up to Thornton, NH. It is my personal mission to fight pancreatic cancer in this and many other ways until it is gone. All in honor of my close friend Karen Petty who was taken by this disease.
